6 Months Old Solid Food (Part 3)

Ahhh... not a good week this week, I've been slacking in everything, from house chores to cooking, heck even blogging seems like a huge burden to me these days but I shall keep my word! Yes, I've promised a friend that I'd be sharing baby food recipes and whatnot. Hopefully she's too occupied with work or other blogs so she won't complain that each time she comes here my latest post would still be... 'Zabi Aydan's Beach Something Something'.

Anyways, Zabi Aydan has been eating pretty much the same old food the past few days, oat, apricot (his favourite next to sweet potato), broccoli, potato, peach... but I did introduce him to something new this week... zucchini and red rice. I noticed that he preferred red rice over basmathi rice, simply because it has an earthy sweetness taste, I swear! Even I was contemplating changing our daily rice from plain ol' basmathi to red rice. Sangat sedap lagi berkhasiat hehehe. Dunno if Mr. Tubby would agree though. He seems to love his basmathi too much.

Zabi Aydan's reaction towards zucchini? So so only lah... what do you expect, it's a vegetable, it's bland in colour and in taste, but being Zabi Aydan, whatever I feed him, he eats lah. Easy baby. Hopefully this is permanent. Mr. Tubby and I are both not fussy eaters. We eat almost everything (I don't eat durians though) and I hope our son will follow suit. No picky picky OK baby!

Back to topic, here are more baby food recipes tried and tested by yours truly and Zabi Aydan for the past few days... maybe you can try and make 'em too!

Some of you asked me how I prepare my purees... OK, here's how. Basically I like to steam them. With the exception of sweet potatoes. I prefer them baked. In preparing my puree cubes, I'd use my Philips Avent Combined Steamer and Blender. Easy. Just wash the ingredients, peel skin, cut into tiny cubes, steam! The steamer is automatic, hence all I need to do is refer to the instructions booklet, say for peaches, steam for 5 minutes = 50 ml of water into the insert, turn on steaming knob, after 5 minutes the equipment will go beep beep which means it's ready! The booklet will tell you how long you need exactly to steam all sorts of ingredients, veggies, fruits and meat included! So no issue of over or under steaming certain food, you know what I mean?

OK, after steaming, I let my ingredients cool for a bit (to room temperature preferably), then just flip the jar, turn on the blending knob... blizzt blizzt blizzt your puree is ready! Then pour them into various containers lah, but of course I prefer using the Baby Cubes or the ice cube trays with lid from Giant. For purees which I don't intend to mix with oats or red rice, I prefer putting them in my MAM food containers cos it will be easier for me to warm using my food warmer. Otherwise leceh need to transfer here and there... hence more mess for me to clean up. I always let the purees cool a bit in the chiller first for a couple of hours before transferring them to the freezer. Unless I want to use them within 24 hours, then I'd just leave 'em in the chiller. Once the puree goes to the freezer, I would always thaw the puree before use. Usually it's like this. When I prepare breakfast for Zabi Aydan, I'd take out the puree cubes that I've thawed the day before. Then I would immediately take out the puree cubes I intend to use the NEXT day from the freezer and transfer them to the chiller. The same goes when I prepare dinner for Zabi Aydan. As for the oats or red rice, I'd always cook them fresh, right before feeding time. Then when the oats or red rice are cooked, I'd add the thawed puree cubes and EBM, cook for about 2 minutes, then serve.

Usually I'd feed Zabi Aydan with oats as breakfast (mixed with fruits puree) and red rice for dinner (mixed with either veggies puree or a combination of both veggies and fruits). At times when Zabi Aydan's too hungry and couldn't wait for mommy to cook his oats or red rice (bear in mind, rice takes longer time to cook as compared to oats), I'd just skip them altogether means Zabi Aydan will just eat plain veggies and/or fruits puree. As simple as that. At times I'll let him have an evening or late afternoon snack... usually mangoes or bananas.

Here's the steamer + blender doing it's magic. It's so easy! Less cleaning for me! Hehe

Zucchini puree ready to go to the chiller.

Mr. Tubby bought a lot of peaches last week so this is the second batch... the not so sweet ones.

First time steaming sweet potatoes... Oh, this is sweet potato + pear puree. Try it, it's nice!!!

Apples + dates puree, Zabi Aydan's least favourite but hey, mommy's not gonna give up!

Just thought I'd share... this is organic red rice from Sarawak which I bought from Jusco Mid Valley last week. I washed the rice thoroughly, drained the water and fry them in the wok without oil, we Malays call it sangai I believe, do correct me if I'm wrong, this is done to make sure there's no excess water from the washing. Then just grind to a fine powdery texture. Keep in airtight container and store in the chiller. Same goes with the rolled oats. Grind 'em and store in the chiller. Makes life more easier. Cooks faster. Us moms need to do everything the easy way, with all the running around hehe.

So, I guess that's about it! More recipes and tips coming your way real soon!!! Before I go, indulge in some baby pictures will you? Hehe... you know what, sometimes I feel like my son is growing too fast! Look at Zabi Aydan! He's such a big boy already!

Eat like a champ!!!

Acting all sleepy and bored when grandma wants to suap.

Those thighs just get bigger and bigger. Geram.

Haha, so irrelevant kan???

p/s: I've been having troubles sleeping lately. I get so exhausted from all the housework and cooking and Zabi Aydan at the end of the day I just look forward to his bedtime but when he goes to sleep my eyes won't shut! Which explains why I am writing this post at 3.00 am! Why why why??? Does this means I have to resort to sleeping pills? Tskkkk...

Yun, dina pun rasa better tapis bila dh mix semua... hehe.. kulit mulus? xde lah yun.. dia ada mild eczema tau.. tp x nampak sgt lah... kesian dia... risau dina nanti time nak bagi animal protein n dairy tu... if ada eczema xleh mkn bnyk tu.. hopefully eczema dia akan hilang soon..

dinashuz said...

Mel: hehe... thighs aje yg expand... i wish his cheeks wud be chubbier tho.. hehe... look at khayla! so yummylicious too!

Hana: Dina buat mcm ni, beras/oat yg dina blend halus tu, masak dgn air mcm biasa... when dh masak baru masukkan puree, then bila mendidih terus tutup api. sebab puree kan dh siap masak so no need lama2 =) hope this helps.

Ily: hehe thanks! ohh apricot tu i beli dried apricots, rendam 20 mins in warm water, then potong kecik2, steam, then blend. my baby super like apricot! serious! hehe itulah his thighs are his biggest asset... yg lain x chubby sgt.. lemak2 all go to thighs mcm his mommy hehe

dina, nk tnya..cm red rice yg dh jd grind tu..msk cm biasa kn. tp aku buat cm cpt sgt msknye, tkt xmsk je..huhu..api slow je kn..betul ke?oat pn sama kn?

dinashuz said...

Qilah, masak cam biasa tp lebihkan air sikit sbb red rice ni dia susah masak sikit as compared to rice biasa/ brown rice. if ko pakai brown rice pun ok jugak. if mix pun bagus. haah api slow. kalau oat api medium pun ok. oat mmg cpt masak. dlm 2-3 min masak dah... b4 bagi baby makan ko rasa dulu hehe
